Lonely Planet review

Once a Victorian warehouse owned by the Zetter football pools family, The Zetter is in a boutique class of its own. Eco-conscious and bank-manager-friendly, it's well and truly made its mark on the city hotel scene. Mellow, laid-back and seriously cool, this is your best east-end connection. It's a very funky hotel with clean white walls, bespoke '60s and '70s furniture and vending machines in place of mini-bars (selling everything from beer and champagne to toothbrushes and ear plugs). The 59 rooms are set out over five floors around a glass-roofed atrium and while not huge, they are generous in design with modern artwork on the walls, secondhand Penguin classics on the bookshelves and hot-water bottles with individual hand-knitted covers propped up on the beds. Seven rooftop studios sit on the top floor with floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors that lead onto private wooden-decked patios. The ground floor bar is a personal favourite and not just for the Zen Zero Zetter cocktails it serves. There's a definite James Bond vibe going on here with a swirling '70s carpet, floral bucket seats and battered leather sofas.
