Minutes from every form of transport available in Boston, the very basic Shawmut Inn is ideally situated for quick getaways to surrounding areas, easy landings from afar and instant access to Boston neighbourhoods. It's own immediate neighbourhood, though, is loud and unexciting.
This small hotel offers just the basic goods in each room: cable/satellite TV and dial-up Internet access. Kitchenettes have a refrigerator, microwave and coffee/tea maker. Rooms can be on the smallish and darkish side, and the neighbourhood can seem mildly disconcerting, but there's enough foot traffic and decent lighting to keep the bogeymen at bay. Besides, for 5.00 and the flash of your room key, you get to use the fitness centre across the street, and parking costs only an arm - you get to keep the leg - which, by the way, amounts to high praise in an area with astronomical parking fees. The staff are friendly and quick to offer suggestions for tourist spots, family activities, nightlife and cultural attractions. They can also help you make sense of the transport system to help get you around.
