Perched on the edge of Harvard Sq, this contemporary and warm hotel appeals to erudite visitors of Harvard University and sophisticated travellers who appreciate intimacy and scale in their lodgings.

Built in 1985, the hotel's red bricks were made to match Harvard's buildings and the sidewalks of Cambridge. The Charles caters largely to Harvard's visiting dignitaries and parents. The square, modern lines of the public rooms are set off nicely by New England country antiques. Its many large windows showcase river views, the university and its own attractive courtyard. Rooms feature cosy quilts, Shaker-style furnishings, triple sheeting, windows that actually open, Séura LCD televisions and comfy slippers. On the premises, you'll find the jazzy and highly regarded Regatta Bar, that hosts world-renowned jazz combos. Its restaurant, Rialto, the long-running brainchild of Jody Adams, never ceases to amaze a steady stream of repeat patrons with its soulful New American cuisine.
