Prairie School style pervades in the public spaces, but the Frank Lloyd Wright influence is much less evident in the run-of-the-mill sandy yellow and tan-colored guest rooms. The good value here comes from the Hampton's sweet location near the Magnificent Mile and its array of freebies.

Extras here are among the city's best for mid-range lodging. Behold the high-speed wired and wi-fi access, the business center with computers, the exercise room, the indoor pool, the hot tub, sauna, and the generous breakfast buffet with eggs, waffles and other hot items. There's a coin laundry and rooms come standard with coffee makers and ironing boards. The lobby, with dark wood and stained-glass lamps, tends to be overrun with kids, but the staff maintain a sense of friendly calm. As you head to your room, check out the wonderful collection of oversized black-and-white photos of historic Chicago lining the halls. It's just another of the little touches that the folks here provide in their role as good hosts.
