Just because you want to stay at touristy Fisherman's Wharf, it doesn't mean that you have to settle for a plain-Jane chain hotel like the Marriott or Hyatt. The Tuscan Inn is just as comfortable, but has way more character. And who says stripes and checks don't match?

Dynamic colours and textures set the Tuscan Inn apart from its humdrum neighbours. All the rooms look fresh, with mismatched patterns and bold colours. End tables have black and white checked skirts, and sit next to oh-so-comfy beds with bright white duvet covers and brick red throw-blankets. Instead of curtains, white wooden plantation shutters cover the windows. Bathrooms are nothing special, but they're spotless. The big drawback is that some rooms are small and have limited closet space. Though under the Best Western banner, the hotel is actually managed by Kimpton Hotels, which specializes in fashion-forward boutique properties. This is one of their midrange hotels, and though it lacks extras like 24-hour room service and a swimming pool, the service and location are good.
