Workers for foreign NGOs swear by this well-loved 1970s hotel near the Bombay Hospital. Styling could use an update to the 21st century, but facilities are good and the atmosphere is genial and calm. The roomy bedrooms come with TVs, tubs and blue vinyl chaise-longues.

The West End Hotel is stuck in a 1970s timewarp, but it's still an appealing place to stay. The service and facilities are commendable - there's a good restaurant and coffee-shop and a net cafe in the lobby and the staff are genial and courteous. Rooms are spacious, well-equipped and comfortable, with blue vinyl furniture and just a hint of disco-era chintz. Away from the main action on Veer Nariman Rd, the hotel attracts serious professionals who value a good night's sleep. Many guests are NGO workers and volunteers, so you're guaranteed some interesting and insightful conversations over breakfast. There's a cinema just down the road and cabs loiter around to take you down to the restaurants on Veer Nariman Rd. However, the area gets a bit noisy on Fridays when pilgrims flock to the Islamic shrine down the road.
