Every inch the business hotel, the Shalimar is a short hop from Chowpatty Beach and Malabar Hill. You may find the bright blue decor a bit much, but the air-conditioning is icy cold and the rooms provide a peaceful place to work away from the noisy streets outside. With the meteoric rise of Bandra, the once exclusive neighbourhood of Breach Candy has slipped down the rankings but it's still handy for Chowpatty and the sights of Mahalaxmi, Haji Ali and Worli. The Shalimar is easily the best hotel in the area and business travellers will appreciate the well-organised business centre, though possibly not the piped Muzak in the foyer. The air-conditioning could freeze the nose off an Eskimo and the rooms are well appointed, with decent-sized TVs, deep bathtubs and generously stocked minibars. Most people who stay here are in Mumbai on business, but the hotel is also well located for the fashion boutiques at Kemp's Corner and the parks and temples on Malabar Hill. For dinner, you can eat in the hotel or stroll over to Chowpatty for a slap-up meal at the insanely popular Cream Centre.
