Everything about Myeong-dong's newest business hotel is practical rather than luxurious, but it has whizzed to the top of the popularity poll with its no-nonsense prices, sparkling newness and great location. Why pay more?Cookie-cutter rooms but brand new and with a modest gym, sauna, bar and restaurant, the Ibis has all the basics plus a great location wedged between sober downtown and the fashionista Myeong-dong district. Ask for a view of Namsan which costs no extra. The lack of a minibar speaks volumes about the hotel's philosophy (no price gouging) as does the card-key system (everything's up-to-date, mate). These two aspects make this midrange business option stand out like a sore thumb in Seoul. The staff too catch the mood and are almost cheerful. No wonder Ibis Myeong-dong wins popularity polls hands down, especially among those paying the bill out of their own pocket.
