Less than 10 minutes' drive from Tan Son Nhat Airport and about 15 minutes to the city centre, the Omni is popular with business people for its location (it's relatively easy to get into and out of the city) and high-quality service that consistently gets rave reviews. It's no architectural stunner. If you look up as you approach the Omni you might think you're walking into some Soviet-era barracks with a fancy portico thingy tacked on the front. In fact, the building dates to the American era, when it served as the CIA headquarters in South Vietnam - in some places the walls are so thick your mobile phone won't work. But while the exterior is uninspiring, the interior is quite impressive. The marble floors and vaguely Art Deco flourishes of the foyer give way to comfortable, sleek and well-appointed if not awe-inspiring rooms. The real attractions are the Qi Spa, excellent gym, Mulligans Pub and several restaurants (we lost count at four) serving Asian and European fare. The Sunday brunch is legendary. If you want great service and reliable business facilities, the Omni is a good bet. For a heart-of-the-action location, look elsewhere.

There's not a whole lot happening in this part of Saigon so head into town for sights and the best of the bars and restaurants. On the way, stop at the the Vinh Nghiem Pagoda and the Binh Soup Shop. After a lunch of tasty noodle soup, ask them to take you upstairs to the room that served as the Viet Cong headquarters during the war.
