Although located off a busy, unattractive section of Th Chang Pheuak north of Pratu Chang Pheuak, the Novotel is bargain-priced considering the spacious modern rooms and location near Talat Thanin, the best fresh market in the city.The Novotel Chiang Mai carves its very own niche in many ways. It is the only high-end hotel in the entire Chang Pheuak neighbourhood, one of the city's commercial nerve centres. Design-wise, rather than following the same blandly international formula found in some of its Bangkok counterparts, the branch here cultivates the feel of a boutique hotel with a clean, minimalist lobby carpeted in rich blues. Decor makes ample use of northern Thai fabrics and other local touches. Nearly half the rooms are nonsmoking. Decorated in bright, almost Latin American colours, the casual, airy Citrus restaurant serves international cuisine. Rim Ping, the city's best supermarket, is almost next door, and Talat Thanin is also close by.
