Catering beautifully to the modern obsession with inner and outer health, the Erawan provides a luxury inner-city retreat. Come here to sanctify your body and soul, through spa treatments, fine dining and glamorous shopping. The mezzanine level displays some of the hotel's vast Thai art collection.Be ushered through towering white pillars and a glass atrium and onwards to a better place. The rooms are small but in this case good things come in small packages. They're cocoons of pale creamy colours, wood furnishings and silky fabrics. Think beige zebra crossed with Yves Saint Laurent and you're getting there. Antique decorations and high-tech gadgets will catch your eye once you get over the spectacular view - many rooms overlook the prestigious Bangkok Royal Sports Club racetrack. So the rooms are beautiful, though not astoundingly so considering their price. But what really makes the Erawan stand out is the total rejuvenation 'package' on offer. The brand new 'I.sawan' residential spa and club houses sumptuous spa services, private 'treatment bungalows', exquisite fitness areas and gorgeous nail bars. The new spa cottages, perched around the stunning pool, are really something.

Once your body has been massaged, painted, polished and healed, you can go fill it with delicious food (there are several highly esteemed restaurants in the immediate vicinity) and dress it in divine clothing (international and local designer labels are all at your fingertips). The beautiful Erawan Tea Room is a must - very popular in Bangkok's swish circles.
The Erawan Shrine out the front was built to ward off bad luck during the construction of the first Erawan Hotel (torn down to make room for the current one). When building didn't go to plan the original spirit house was replaced with the impressive Brahman shrine you see today. Bangkok residents flock here every day to make offerings and pray. When prayers come true, commemorative performances are organised with musicians and dance.
