Address: Rua filomena de camera, Lecidere , Dili , South-east asia
Lots of plants, a vibrant bar and an alluring pool help overcome architecture that will be familiar to anyone who's worked in a remote mining camp. The Spartan rooms don't have TVs; the cheapest share bathrooms. At first glance this place seems like a dump - lots of rooms in portable buildings with posh furniture of the moulded white plastic variety. But look a little longer and you'll see that the place is spotless, there are lots of plants around and the common area is quite convivial. The bar is big and open, the restaurant chilled out with air-con. Best of all there's a large pool (of the above-ground suburban variety) and a hot tub. It all adds up to a fun place, walled off from the cares elsewhere in town. The owner is a local bon vivant and there are frequent special events such as rowdy 'fashion shows' and foam parties that see people of all ages get wet and soapy.

Just east of the centre, the Lecidere neighbourhood is no more than a 10min walk from most places of interest but is tucked away on a palm-lined street. The waterfront is close and on the way you can enjoy the trenchant commentary applied to the high white walls of the former residence of the US ambassador (he moved to a place with a huge pool, 'thanks taxpayers!').
