The main buildings of this nicely understated resort corral a tree-dotted park that helps emphasise the openness of the surrounding terrain. There are all the facilities you'd expect of a plush resort, including a solar-heated pool that's surely one of the few in town that gets a workout in winter. The main differences between the resort's 'Standard' and 'Deluxe' rooms are that the latter come with a bathtub and a balcony - tub aficionados will like the fact that the bath is separated from the shower stall, while the balconies look out over the enigmatic emptiness of Todd River. All rooms have an appealing modern aesthetic that avoids being either sterile or overdone. The pool area encircles a small fountain and includes a poolside bar when the weather warms up. On the down side, disabled travellers and the elderly should note that the wing of the resort that houses the Deluxe rooms is strangely bereft of lifts or ramps - there are only stairs.

Drag yourself out of your big bed or the resort pool and head over to Alice Springs' Cultural Precinct. Inspect the art in the Albert Namatjira Gallery, gorge yourself on natural history in the fine Museum of Central Australia, and search the cemetery for the grave of Harold Lasseter, who perished while trying to rediscover a reef of gold out in the desert.
