The amicable Hotel Renuka has been around since 1988, and its long experience with tourists shows. It is a very together operation, and in a camel-safari-mad Jaisalmer, this is an easy going place you can rest your noggin without being pressured to commit to a safari. This family-run hotel on a quiet road just off Gandhi Chowk offers 12 rooms spread over a few floors. Rooms are basic and minimally decorated, but clean and well sunlit, with squeaky-clean white sheets. Some rooms are accented with small Rajasthani photo prints on the wall, and others come with the real-life canvas that a balcony offers. The balcony-less should fret not, though: Just head up to the roof terrace above for more of Jaisalmer's sigh-inducing views of town and fort. The small restaurant here, open only to guests of this hotel and the neighbouring Hotel Ratan Palace (under the same ownership), is a pleasant place to hang. Call ahead to request free pickup from the bus or train station - or else, risk the aggressive lures of commission-hungry touts.
