Now's your chance to feel really good about bedding down for the night. Proceeds from the three-storey Artist Hotel's rooms and restaurant go to the local community, a village steeped in traditional music.

Sure, the rooms here are decent. But the hotel's popularity has more to do with the place's commitment to goodwill and community arts. Tourists' rupees go toward educational, medical and emergency funds for the local musicians' village, the residents of which come from a long tradition of storytelling through music. Prominently placed within the village, the hotel offers simple, clean and functionally comfy rooms. Head to the cosy rooftop where - if there are four or more of you up for dinner - you're sure to be serenaded by village children playing unique instruments. The European and Indian menu is mouthwatering. Founded by an Austrian who is at the hotel half the year (and cooks a mean dish when he is), the hotel has a welcoming feel extended by the staff, who are down-to-earth and friendly.
