One of the older hotels in the area, Hotel Fort View opened in 1982, and certainly its age does show. But you couldn't ask for a better up-close fort view, and it's just a short jaunt to the lively fort entrance.

This hotel is a good compromise for budget travellers wanting to 'experience' fort living without staying within its walls. The fort is a severely endangered monument, and hotels inside it do increase pressure on its already taxed infrastructure. Fort View's rooms are basic, with soft lumpy beds coloured by faded tie-dye tapestries. Certainly the higher-priced rooms would be overpriced if not for the up-close fort view. Unfussy budget badgers might like to opt for the humble doubles that are completely no-frills. But you won't be completely roughing it: all rooms have an attached bath, some with Indian-style toilet. And though hot water runs only limited hours in the morning and evening, if you need a rinse at another time, a bucket can be arranged. The fort-facing restaurant isn't much on charming ambience, but again, the money's on location.
