Lonely Planet review

Reached by a rope-drawn pontoon across Phewa Tal, Fish Tail Lodge is probably the most sensitively-designed building in Pokhara. The lodge is understated but luxurious and facilities include an outdoor pool, an excellent restaurant and bar, and rooms in slate-roofed bungalows in a lush tropical garden.

Guests at Fish Tail Lodge have the best of both worlds. The resort is a haven of calm surrounded by lush woodland on the south shore of Phewa Tal, yet you can walk to amenities of Lakeside in minutes - restaurants, bars, map shops and rafting agencies are all right on the doorstep. This is one of the most thoughtfully styled places in Nepal. Rooms are contained in elegant ring-shaped stone bungalows in a gorgeous tropical garden that merges with the surrounding forest. There are lake and mountain views from the terrace and pool, and the central lodge has one of the best restaurants in Pokhara, set around an open fire. Rooms No 16, 17 and 18 have the best of the views but you'll need to book well in advance. Staff can arrange various activities, including boat trips, treks, fishing, bird-watching and golf.
