Address: 157 beijing lu, City centre , Kunming 650011, North-east asia
Even with its busy location near the train station, this 37-storey ultramodern hotel is easily the top choice in town for those who demand both luxury and style. Rooms are bright and inviting, with large beds, plush white carpeting and panoramic views on the upper floors. The first thing you'll notice about the Kai Wah is the enormous glass-encased cafe. This sun-filled space is popular with international businessmen and well-heeled travellers alike, some enjoying coffee beneath the towering indoor palm trees while others relax comfortably in the rattan armchairs. The amenities are what you'd expect from a five-star hotel (indoor pool, fitness centre, 24-hour business centre, non-smoking floors, mini-bar, satellite and pay-per-view TV), but when compared with the competition, the Kai Wah gets top marks for quality and service. The only drawback is the uninspired location - you'll need to catch a taxi to go anywhere of interest.
