Lonely Planet review

This superbly situated 17-room hotel is an oasis of tranquillity due south of sublime place des Vosges. The public areas are quite impressive and the rooms warm and cosy. There's a tiny lift from the 1st to 4th floors but stairs from the ground floor to the 1st and from the 4th to the 5th floor. The lobby/salon is most impressive, with beamed ceiling, tapestries on the stone walls and that straight-backed neo-Gothic furniture that always looks like it belongs in a Spanish castle or a Pier Imports shop. Rooms are of a good standard and a bit pricey for what they are, but this is all about location; we especially like the anti-allergenic quilts and the douches multijets (power showers). A boon for families and/or close friends is the suite on the top floor with excellent views that can comfortably accommodate up to four people.
