The Girona is a 2nd-floor family-run hostal, basic but a clean and friendly spot. It's the kind of pensión that takes you back to another era of European travel. The building is worn, but once inside, you could be in the very clean setting of a 1950s period film. Rooms are quite simple but in good order.The atmosphere is Catalan and somewhat frozen in time - it has an authentic local touch. In a city where inflation has run wild (in spite of the official figures), the room prices are very good value. Rooms range from poky singles (perhaps not such great value!) with communal bathroom to airy doubles with balcony (but beware of traffic noise in summer when you may want to keep the windows open, although air-con is available).
