Run for backpackers by backpackers (the same people who run the beachfront Sea Point Hostel), Gothic Point is a bustling, sprawling hostel that's always a hive of activity. Dorms are somewhat cramped but the friendly, international atmosphere makes up for it.

If there's something unusual (and preferably cheap) happening around town, chances are that the staff here will have an excursion organised before many other people know about it. For this reason it's a great place to squeeze the most out of your stay in town and, surrounded by other like-minded travellers, you're also guaranteed to make plenty of new friends. There's also free internet and safety lockers. This brings us to the rooms. They cram them in here and although the dorms have more natural light than their equivalents at the seafront sister hostel, they're pretty claustrophobic and the morning queues for showers can be prodigious. Come here for the traveller experience, not the privacy.
