Lonely Planet review

A five-minute walk from the train station and steps from the Basilica di San Lorenzo, the Hotel Accademia offers solid modern comforts inside an imposing, 18th-century palazzo. You arrive via a monumental staircase that in turn leads to an impressive set of stained-glass doors.Once you get inside you'll find that the hotel is relatively modest after the big build-up. Still, it is also imminently comfortable, with air-conditioning, new (and very good) beds and recently renovated bathrooms done up in sparklingly clean tiles. Double-paned windows are another bonus in this very busy part of town. Rooms vary in size but most are generously proportioned, though only a few get significant amounts of sunlight. While the pseudo-antique furnishings won't be winning style awards any time soon, parquet floors have been preserved in the common areas (though not in the bedrooms), and there is a pleasant courtyard area. Laundry and Internet service are also available.
