Located near the Duomo and steps from Michelangelo's Cappelle Medicee, this small, friendly hotel offers good value by Florentine standards, making it a fine base for travellers who want a few more comforts than budget accommodation can provide - and are willing to pay a small premium for it.

Like many Florentine hotels, this place is cobbled together from several apartments within a centuries-old palace, which means room size and shape vary. Still, most are comfortable and larger than average. If you're lucky, you will be placed in one of the two rooms with views - one that looks out onto the Cappelle Medicee and the other that also takes in the Duomo. A third has a balcony, though no view. Unfortunately you cannot request these rooms in advance - it's basically luck of the draw. Prices include a buffet breakfast (with croissants baked on the premises) and free Internet access on a first-come-first-serve basis. The original palace has mostly been gutted and rebuilt with limited attention to aesthetic considerations, but the prices and location are undoubtedly attractive.
