Housed in a thin black tower, this European-style hotel is two blocks west of the lively Yonge St strip. Perhaps due to its personalized service and close proximity to the famous Bistro 990, this hotel remains popular with visiting dignitaries and movie stars even if the building is starting to show signs of age.

The location is worthy of note: it's just minutes on foot from the Financial District, the Church-Wellesley district, the University of Toronto campus, and Yorkville. It's also mere seconds from the mod shops and diverse restaurants along the Yonge St strip. The sumptuous guest rooms are soothing with soft fabrics and subtle colors. Recent installations include CD players and beds carefully designed by chiropractic professionals. Elegant antiques and tapestries, gilded mirrors and chandeliers are displayed throughout the hotel. Rooms are not at all small, but if you plan to stay longer than a few days, La Grande Résidence apartments on the 18th floor are fully furnished with full kitchens, living rooms, king-sized beds and heated floors.
