Formerly just a standard older hotel in a good location, the St Regis has been utterly transformed into a slick, high-end boutique sleepover. Expect mod flourishes in the rooms, artworks in the corridors and smile-triggering front desk service.Following a complete multimillion-dollar revamp, the newly swankified St Regis, combining a heritage 1913 exterior with a splashy, contemporary interior, has become one of the city's best boutique hotels. Like any older property, the rooms come in a wide array of sizes, but all are lounge-cool, with flatscreen TVs, multimedia hubs, earth-tone bedspreads and pastel wallpaper with a stitched leather-look finish. The sparkling new bathrooms are also a revelation to anyone who remembers the old ones here. But not everything is new: check out the cleverly recycled furniture from the now defunct Hotel Georgia. Facilities include access to the gym next door and a small lobby-level business center with free-use computers (the hotel also offers free wi-fi). Rates include a cooked breakfast in the on-site resto-bar - there's also a Starbucks next door if you need a java jolt anytime.

You're just across from the Railway Club, perhaps Vancouver's best small live-music venue, so consider hopping across the street to check out what's on offer. If you arrive before 19:00 there's no cover charge.
The original architects of this hotel also designed the much-loved Marine Bulding, Vancouver's favorite art deco structure.
