From the looking-glass pool in the cement-floor lobby to the in-room espresso makers, Design Suites is pure eye candy, top-to-bottom fun for the minimalist in everyone. Tables, chairs, paintings, glasses - everything was designed specifically for the hotel, meaning you'll never find a place quite like it.

Opened in 1999, this place is as much an exhibit as it is an hotel, although the modernist décor can be a bit chilly at times. Black-suited gentlemen mind the front, while sophisticated guests hang out round the decorative lobby pool. A small wine bar will keep you well hydrated, and furnishings, such as glass-top tables, design-school chairs and slick lighting, will keep you distracted from the world outside. All 48 rooms have cement walls adorned with some wild-eyed piece of abstract art. Finishing touches include carefully displayed wine goblets, industrial-style coffee tables and little water jars filled with coloured marbles. It's a good way to feed your rock-star image for a night or two. There's one computer with internet access for guests and complimentary access to a nearby gym.
