All right, all right, so it's the Marriott. And even though you may not be rolling into Buenos Aires looking for a chain hotel, you might be able to forget it this time. This was the first five-star hotel in Buenos Aires and it remains one of the city's most historical.

The building was funded by the prestigious Tornquist family and inaugurated in 1909. It was designed by German architect Alfred Zuker, who also designed St Patrick's Cathedral in New York. Trust us, it's a beauty. It's located directly across from Plaza San Martín, and only a stone's throw from the pedestrian shopping mecca of Calle Florida. The rooms are simply beautiful. The' vista plaza' rooms boast a view over the plaza while the best suites have rooftop terraces. The downstairs cafe is an historical landmark itself, and the outdoor pool is likely the most perfectly situated in the city - directly across from Plaza San Martín.
