Address: Ballsbridge , Dublin 4, Ireland Show on map
We'll forgive them the stripey wallpaper in the bedrooms because this place has so much else going for it. A bright, modernist foyer that opens onto two buzzing bars, spacious comfortable rooms, and, in our opinion, the best (and most reasonable) suites in town, designed with chichi New York in mind and with huge balconies overlooking gorgeous Herbert Park. You approach the hotel via a small bridge that leads to a snazzy foyer and lift up to the large, light-filled lobby with its floor-to-ceiling windows and slanted glass roof. The big-is-better theme is pursued throughout the 150 bedrooms - which are outfitted with king-size beds and a host of contemporary gizmos such as interactive TV with email and internet. The three suites are sumptuous and feature nice touches like a daily box of handmade Irish choccies to be scoffed as you enjoy the panoramic views over the park and the Royal Dublin Showgrounds below. You can get your three meals a day in the pretty decent Pavilion Restaurant, which does a roaring trade in Irish cuisine with an international twist - the house specialties are generally drawn from the sea. The Sunday Jazz buffet is an extra bit of class.
