Completely renovated in 2001, this fine hotel has quickly established itself as one of the most luxurious in Madrid. The downstairs lobby is modern and stylishly minimalist with a light-filled interior courtyard, while the rooms are furnished in classic luxury style. This successful marriage of old and new is the work of one of Spain's finest interior designers, Pascual Ortega, who remodelled the Teatro Real. Rooms are spacious, extremely comfortable and filled with everything from Bulgari bathroom accessories and fresh flowers to wi-fi internet access. Despite being on one of Madrid's busiest boulevards, you'll hardly hear a sound as the whole place is well insulated from external noise. The ninth floor gym has the latest in workout equipment, a masseur (who can also come to your room) and good views over the Paseo de la Castellana. Service from the young staff is helpful and rarely misses a beat. In the downstairs lobby, you'll find jazz performances (Tuesday) and chill-out/lounge music (Thursday) and a piano bar with 'Madrid's widest selection of whiskies' (over 100), while the hotel's two-Michelin-starred restaurant is one of Madrid's best.
