High on a hill near the looming battlements of Castelo de São Jorge lies this serene boutique hotel, where you'll awake to birdsong and panoramic views of Lisbon from your veranda. Rooms are well-appointed, staff courteous and the location is unbeatable.

It's a steep climb up a cobbled street to this bubble-gum pink boutique hotel, but the awesome views over Lisbon and sense of calm make it worthwhile. From the laidback ambience and unflustered staff, you'd never guess this place is often booked solid. The 24 plush rooms are decorated in eggshell and pearl-beige hues, with deep-pile carpets, sparkly marble bathrooms and mod cons (cable TV, air-con etc). Hard beds are the only downside for big softies. The best rooms, on the 2nd and 3rd floor, offer decked verandas where you can relax in a lounger and enjoy some laid-back sightseeing. Wake up to a great buffet breakfast with bacon, eggs and fruit salad. If you're coming by taxi, scribble down the name as it's quite a mouthful to pronounce.
