Lonely Planet review

With its garden outlook, great terrace and attentive staff, Hotel Poem may not win awards for the most attractive makeover, but it certainly offers a comfortable and welcoming stay. Each room is named after a Turkish poem, framed above your bed.

Hotel Poem is two buildings linked by a terrace and dining room. Although technically listed as a historical hotel, frankly the Poem has been over-restored. But we love its outdoor spaces. The terrace has wonderful views (set your watch for sunset), while just outside the lobby is an outdoor terrace. When the magnificent fig tree is in leaf this is a wonderfully shady spot to enjoy an evening drink and catch up on that book you've been meaning to read. The rooms themselves are simple and comfortable, the bathrooms clean. Our picks are 'All of a Sudden', with its own private balcony and prime views, and 'War and Lovers', also with fabulous views. Some of the other rooms can be a bit small. The staff get full points for attentiveness.
