With its sleek rooms, cutting-edge interior, contemporary art themes and hi-tech extras, Le Meridien is the equivalent of a young genius (with a French accent) dealing an intellectual blow to its ancient contemporaries on the Ringstrasse.

The newly built hotel is a combination of understated elegance and modern design, starting with the lobby; a vibrant space of contemporary art installations and plenty of comings and goings. The designated gallery is in the basement, where local artists are showcased on a regular basis. Rooms are the epitome of Le Meridien's ART+TECH motto - pastel shades highlight designer furniture, Vienna-motif glass headboards backlight comfy beds, plasma TVs flatten themselves against walls and free-standing power showers. But it's not all about wowing guests; real coffee, ironing equipment and copies of Henry Moore's Sheep Sketchbook (Why? Why not?) are a few of the touches that create a personal feel. Penthouse suites have the added advantage of terraces overlooking the Ringstrasse, and its Shambala bar and restaurant is a place to be seen. Service is young and fresh, and always professional.
