Of the highly sought after hotels on the Ringstrasse, am Schubertring is about the only option available to the average Joe. With so many of Vienna's celebrated music institutions so close at hand, it's attractive to an average Joe who loves classical music.

Aside from a well-situated location at a reasonable price, am Schubertring also appeals to visitors with its old-fashioned-ness. The reception and bar areas are festooned with elaborate furniture (often in mis-matching colours), colourful vases and plenty of greenery, while many rooms are decorated in the Biedermeier period. Biedermeier is characterised by floral designs and graceful lines, and may look disturbingly similar to your Granny's flat, so if all this chintz is far too kitsch for your palate, request a room with an Art Nouveau finish; the subtleties of this era may be more to your liking. Staff are friendly while keeping a healthy professional distance and note that am Stadtpark spreads itself across the upper floors of two buildings, so at first the mazelike corridors will probably be a little confusing.
