An 'art' hotel within sight of Vienna's celebrated modern art museums, Viennart is for contemporary art lovers who not only like a soft bed, but a bed with a designer's touch. First impressions are always important, and Viennart does exceedingly well in this department.

The foyer and reception lounge is the hotel's grand masterpiece, a work of art itself. Various modern pieces adorn walls, creating a gallery-effect, while minimalist furniture, in an array of pastels, adds to the lounge's appeal. Good lighting is always key when viewing art, and here it's no exception: a high skylight supplies as much natural light as is feasibly possible. Unfortunately the rooms themselves are a bit of let down after such a grand opening. Their colour concept borders on garish and more progressive art would be welcome, but funky fittings save the day. Bathrooms are surprisingly plain but highly functional. Staff are short and sweet and have their hand on the jugular of Vienna's pulsing art scene.
