Address: Via tadino 27 - milan , Milan 20124, Italy Show on map
While this small, slightly out of the way hotel was previously a tad dour and only really recommended for its price, a renovation has seen it become a good-value option. With a long-overdue renovation well underway, this small, friendly hotel is now one of the city's better budget options - a category that's as slim as a supermodel in Milan. While the foyer was still resembling a building site when I visited, you'll appreciate that the owners are renovating the rooms first. The rooms all have new floors, bathrooms and beds, with unexpected extras such as air-con and mini-fridges included. While the single rooms are tiny (and as always in Milan, if you're staying more than one night as a single traveller, get a double), the doubles are a reasonable size. Triples and quads have not been renovated. While it's a fair way removed from the action, at least it's in a lovely street.

Unless you really enjoy long walks you're going to become familiar with the workings of the Milan Metro system - which is fine, and Porta Venezia Metro station is quite close. There's some good shopping at nearby Corso Buenos Aires and a couple of reasonable local eateries, but expect to use the Metro map a fair bit.
