While gaining a star (it now has four) hasn't made this hotel the bargain it once was, it's a more elegant hotel for it and a great choice for this interesting little part of town. While this hotel has always looked more expensive than it is, the recent upgrade to four stars has spoiled that illusion somewhat. Prices do vary dramatically depending on whether there's a big fair in town, and at less than full rack rate it's still a good deal. The foyer area of the hotel is rather over-the-top with its cream lounges, but the rooms show more restraint. The rooms facing the street are the best option here, with the double-glazing doing the job of keeping the noise out while allowing some natural light to stream in. The singles with 'French' bed are less claustrophobic than most. The minibar is well-stocked, breakfast is generous, and this is a great part of town to establish your base.

The location is handy to Stazione Nord, which is where the Malpensa Express (from Malpensa Airport) terminates - good for a stopover. There's a couple of excellent and wonderfully decorated bars on the street, Bar Magenta and Caffé Litta - perfect for aperitivo hour - as well as the nearby osteria, Boccondivino, with its mouth-watering cheeses and meats. The hotel's also handy for visiting The Last Supper and the archaeological museum.
