Address: Paseo diaz ordaz 901 , Puerto vallarta 48300, Mexico Show on map
The Rosita is not the most up-to-date place in town, but therein lies its charm (mind, the word 'charm' can hardly be applied to corroded shower fixtures). When so many Vallarta hotels have been renovated into indistinguishable, mind-numbing homogeneity, this old place looks like it hasn't changed a whit since opening in 1948.The hotel has a love-it-or-hate-it chintzy charm, complete with cheesy live music performed throughout the day. The building and particularly the lobby area is of considerable interest as an example of mid 20th-century Mexican architecture, when Spanish-influenced expressions were giving way to something entirely new and uncompromisingly Mexican. The rooms are no-nonsense but clean, painted in warm colors and filled with worn furniture that's seen better days and lots of them. Cheaper streetside rooms are noisy and a bit outdated, but there are more pleasant rooms on offer upstairs. The terrace has a ho-hum pool; it would be a nice place to look out to sea if it weren't for the chain link fence blocking the view.

Check out the highly surreal statue by Mathis Díolice next to the hotel at the terminus of the Malecón: it's perhaps the most wonderful of Puerto Vallarta's grand collection of public artworks. Depicting a host of mythic figures emerging from a wave and crowned by a bodacious nude offering a dove to the sky, the whole thing looks like it's about to topple into the sea.
