This landmark tiled Art Deco building in Queen St has been cleverly converted and features plenty of old-fashioned style combined with modern panache, meaning that during the week it's popular with business travellers and during the weekend it's taken over by city-break types.
There's a neat round number of 100 guest rooms, all smartly kitted out in low-key, sombre colours that let you get down to business without any distractions. The spaces are sensibly planned, with room for all the necessities such as kitchenettes. Seek out the biggest possible room, with natural light, as it makes a world of difference, especially for longer stay. Meeting facilities are good, in a functional, business-like way, but if you want to head downstairs to the lobby and watch the world go by you can - it's a wi-fi hotspot. Service is friendly, although we got the distinct impression that a few more staff should have been rostered on when we visited.
