Popular with business travellers because of its location in the cushy Escalón neighbourhood, the Olinda offers comfortable, well-appointed rooms opening onto somewhat chintzy common areas. An excellent buffet breakfast is included in the rate.Stepping into the Hotel Olinda is kind of like walking into your grandmother's house after she's gone on a shopping spree at the Bombay Company. The rooms are spacious and very well appointed and there's lots of mahogany, stone, and wrought iron. But step outside your door, and suddenly you're in chintzville: lots of candles, craftsy wall hangings, and decorative dolls. Probably not what you'd choose for yourself but very comfortable for a few nights (especially if you consider the flat screen TV and silent air-con). Breakfast is served in a pleasant dining room overlooking a large fountain. Because of its popularity with business travellers, be sure to make reservations for mid-week stays.

Paseo Escalón is five long blocks from the hotel (especially coming back, when it's all uphill) but once there you're just a stone's throw from Galerías Escalón mall, with its upscale shops and huge new movie theatre. Further south of 75a Avenida is the Zona Rosa with its museums and nightlife - better to catch a bus or taxi.
Be sure not to mistake the multi-level fountain for a kiddy pool, which is easy to do (and has been known to happen).
