In the heart of the Zona Rosa, the Hilton offers classic old-world elegance in a great location. A little stuffy for some, and the pool is the size of a teacup, but it still rates as one of San Salvador's top hotels, with nice rooms (some of which have bloody good views of Volcán San Salvador). The Hilton Princess does all it can to exude a classic style befitting its name: a tasteful pastel exterior gives way to a marble lobby with large austere paintings, and then to wallpapered hallways with armchairs by the elevator doors. The bar, with overstuffed leather chairs, is called 'Churchill's' - you half expect the menu to include oily bread. Rooms are quite comfortable, with thick carpet and heavy wood armoires and TV stands. The Hilton caters to business people and conferences but its location in the heart of the Zona Rosa (near the capital's best museums, shopping and nightlife) suits independent travellers just as well.

The Hilton has its own bar, of course, but you might as well sample the famous Zona Rosa nightlife just outside your door - Jala La Jarra (a Señor Frogs spin-off) is one option, or ask the concierge about the latest hot spot.
