Two words: rooftop pool. This is what the modern, 82-room Ducal Suites is all about - at least in summer. The hotel itself lacks charm, but it's comfortable through and through and kept business-class clean.Like all of Córdoba's midrange hotels, the Ducal caters to a business crowd. Carpets on the lobby floor have faded 'Ducal' prints on them, and the attached, windowless cafe is almost always full of smoking chatterboxes. The rooms all have small kitchenettes, which most Argentines simply use to boil water for mate (traditional Argentine tea). Circa-1970-style switches control the heat and air-con, and all street-facing rooms have double-paned glass to keep the street noise out. Framed prints hang in the hallways, and the bathrooms have tubs and hairdryers. The rectangular toilet seats are bit hard on the rump, but, hey, you can't have everything. Jacuzzis are available near the pool area. Overall, it's a modest, comfortable hotel.

From the hotel, walk a block to Independencia and hang a right. Head up to Plaza San Martín and continue north on San Martín (this is the same street as Independencia). After you cross 25 de Mayo you'll be in the area where locals do their day-to-day shopping. For a snack, continue up to the Mercado Norte (cnr Rivadavia & Oncativo), an excellent indoor market.
