There's a bit of elegance left in this 150-room hotel. Light blue satiny couches grace the lobby downstairs, and there's a decent restaurant attached. Meanwhile, the midsized rooms all include TV, telephone, air-con and heating.Service here can be a bit abrupt, and the neighborhood is less than desirable, but it's totally safe during daylight and only blocks from the main plaza. The hotel is an interesting old place and a solid choice if you don't mind residing in an area that's less than attractive after midnight (the hotel itself is totally respectable). It certainly has more character than most digs in town. If you're lucky you'll get a room with so much space you can throw your clothes everywhere and still have carpet to stand on. The white, fake-leather couches in the lobby are pretty kitschy, but it comes with the territory, and makes for a much more 'authentic' experience than that offered by many other hotels in town.

Córdoba's real attractions are its lively streets and its historic architecture. Fortunately, you're only about five blocks from both. Head straight for Plaza San Martín and eyeball the characters wandering the plaza. Then window-shop up and down the pedestrian streets west of the plaza. For a treat, pop into La Vieja Esquina (cnr Belgrano & Caseros) for some of the best empanadas in town.
