Lonely Planet review

Every city in Argentina has hoteles por hora (hourly rate hotels), where people take their secret lovers for a romp in the good old proverbial hay. They vary from cheap, nondescript residenciales (cheap hotels) to deluxe love pads with black lights, wall-to-wall mirrors, nonstop sex-TV, Jacuzzis and room-service menus featuring every imaginable sex toy under the sun.

These deluxe versions are a part of under-the-table Argentine culture that shouldn't be missed (provided you're traveling with a partner who's game, of course).Córdoba boasts four deluxe hoteles por hora on the road to the airport, and if you haven't experienced one of these Argentine institutions, now's your chance. Although they're geared toward folks with cars, you can go in a taxi (trust us, we know). Here's a quick primer on how they work.First, it's all about anonymity. As you drive into the hotel a big number flashes on a sign; that's your room number. Drive to the garage door with your number on it, pull in and close the garage door; if you're in a taxi, the driver will drop you in the garage and leave. Close the garage door and enter the room.In five minutes the phone will ring, and the attendant will ask you if you'd like a complimentary beverage, which he or she then delivers through a tiny sliding door in the wall so no one sees anybody. When the attendant knocks on the door, you open it, take your drinks and pay for the room. Ten minutes before your time is up, the attendant will courteously ring again to tell you it's time to get your gear back on.Of the four hotels on the airport road, the best is Eros Hotel. It has en-suite Jacuzzis, bedside control panels, all the right TV channels and all the fun stuff. And it's impeccably clean.A taxi costs about 15 each way. If you take one, call a remise (telephone taxi) from your hotel and have the driver pick you up in two hours. They all know the drill - no pun intended.
