Set in a huge, opulently furnished mansion with a fine colonial courtyard, the Hotel Libertador Palacio del Inka boasts Inca foundations. Parts of the mansion date back to the 16th century, when Francisco Pizarro was an occupant. It's a strong contender for the title of Cuzco's most popular top-tier hotel.

Even the skylit lobby entrance of this hotel evokes high drama, and the refined guest rooms sport all the comforts you would expect, including wi-fi and plush bathrobes and slippers in which to enjoy 24-hour room service. There are even some amenities you wouldn't imagine: a telephone in the bathroom and dual-voltage power outlets, so you don't need to bring an electricity converter. You'll also find a sauna, health club, business centre and artisan gift shop, making this five-star hotel a small city unto itself. The hotel's respected, formal restaurant Inti Raymi serves nouveau Andean dishes with style and flair.
