Oh the front desk staff are soooooooo surly. Reviewing this place was like pulling teeth! But there's no denying its central new town location and comfortable (if bland) rooms. Unlike the other new town hotels it isn't too big so it has a marginally more inviting atmosphere. What else is there to say? The Splendid is the most modern of the 'modern' hotels. It has a scrubbed, soulless look about it and the personnel are somewhat threadbare - the odd man lingering here or there looking terribly bored. So why would you stay here? The price, for a start, and the location just steps from the main drag of Mohammed V. It's also secure and professionally run, and there's parking for a small fee. The rooms overlooking the pool are undoubtedly the best. The restaurant, however, is dimly lit and gloomy and breakfast is not included in the room rates. Still, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby so it's not such an issue. In summer things are a great deal livelier as the place fills up and the patio, bar and pool come into their own.

Visit Fès's only art gallery, Expose, to view the work of reputable modern Moroccan artists, and in the evening head out to La Trois Sources (Route de Immouzer), a popular Moroccan restaurant on the edge of the Ville where they have live music at the weekends.
