Address: 10 quay street , Galway , Ireland Show on map
It doesn't get more central than the buzzy 112-bed Barnacle's Quay Street House hostel, right on the cobblestoned pedestrian mall and just a few seconds' stroll (or rather, stumble) to all the pubs you came to Galway for. Slainte!Seamlessly spanning a 16th-century townhouse and adjoining 1990s extension, this atmospheric hostel has freshly painted, re-floored lemon-yellow four- to 12-bed dorms with clean sky-blue sheets, and doubles/twins also come with towels, hairdryers and irons. Barnacle's staff have worked here for years and know its rabbit-warren of rooms inside out. There's a brand new horseshoe-shaped kitchen (with appliances like sandwich-makers and a dishwasher) and a cosy common room with a big gas fireplace, free DVDs and Internet. Breakfast (also free) is a cut above most, with extras like scones and soda bread. Ever since someone set fire to the dryer, you can't do your own laundry, but for a fee, staff will wash, dry and even fold your clothes. Your best bet for parking is the Cathedral Car Park - with a hostel stamp it's only a small fee during the week, and free on weekends.
