Lonely Planet review

Pinched between ancient stone buildings along a narrow lane near Jaffa Gate, this venerable old hospice has been housing pilgrims for well over a century. If you're looking for a memorable sleeping experience, want to bypass the creature comforts and don't mind the 23:00 curfew, then this place makes a fine jumping-off point to explore the Old City.
The property is Franciscan run, but the only staff you are likely to meet are some officious Palestinian desk jockeys. Check in, get a key and make your way through the cavernous hallways to your unelaborate room. Rooms have a desk and air-conditioning, but there's no phone and not much view. Most guests are Christian pilgrims from Europe and in the evenings you can find them in the lobby, listening intently as their tour guides outline the following days' itinerary. While it's not the most cordial place in town, the Casa Nova does leave you with an undeniable sense of history that follows you out the door and into the cobbled streets of Old Jerusalem.
