Address: Shimogamo, higashi hangi cho 67, Central kyoto, Sakyo-ku , Kyoto 606-0824, Japan Show on map
A friendly little ryokan in the north of Kyoto, for those who want to escape the hubbub of downtown. Economical prices and English-speaking staff make this a good choice for budget-conscious travellers in search of a fairly traditional Japanese experience.Built in a traditional Japanese home, this ryokan really has a relaxed and homely feel, which is welcome after a long day out in the city. The rooms are clean and simple, with the usual tatami mats and futons. The tiny garden here is a real treat. Staff are casual and friendly and used to dealing with foreigners. The entire ryokan is nonsmoking, something of a rarity in cigarette-mad Japan. Laundry and Internet services are available and there is a useful bulletin board with lots of English-language information. No meals are served, but they've got a map to good restaurants in the area.
