A decent hostel surrounded by the greenery of Ryokuchi-koen Park, the Osaka-fu Hattori Ryokuchi Youth Hostel is about 15 minutes from Kita or 30 minutes from Minami, and no membership is necessary to stay here.

Built in 1959 by the Osaka government and run by Osaka YMCA, the Osaka-fu Hattori Ryokuchi Youth Hostel is a reasonable hostel that is good for backpackers and families travelling on a budget. There are both Western-style and Japanese-style rooms available. The building is simple and a little long in the tooth, but the prices are fair for what you get. The staff is a little offhand, but they seem used to dealing with foreigners. There are lots of things to do in the park here.
