The Osaka Shiritsu Nagai Youth Hostel is the closest youth hostel to the city centre. It's a clean, well-run hostel, located at the back of a stadium. This is a fine choice for backpackers.

This is a very clean YH with a squad of friendly and kind employees who speak excellent English. The entire facility is non-smoking, which is welcome in smoke-mad Japan. It's located on the 3rd floor of Nagai Stadium. Bathrooms are clean and the bathtub is large. There are two computers that you can use for a fee. Private rooms are available for up to four people. This hostel hosts lots of groups. Most of your Osaka sightseeing will involve getting on a subway or train, which means about 30 minutes' travel to get to the centre of town, but there are some decent things in the surrounding park. All told, it's a good spot for budget travellers.
